PortMiami, Cruise Terminal F Expansion, and Berthing Re-Alignment

Lemartec was awarded the Cruise Terminal F Expansion and Berthing Re-Alignment Design-Build Project for Carnival Cruise Line at PortMiami. The DB19-SEA-01 Design-Build Project is a mixture of brand new buildings, modifications of and attachments to existing buildings, optimization of operational flows, and exterior canopies, all while port operations need to remain active and constant coordination between Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Coast Guard, PortMiami, and various Cruise Partners needs to maintain as our world evolves.

Cruise Terminal F Expansion strategy incorporates an existing facility Terminal F facility with expansion building elements that define a new facility with its own character and identity. These expansion components include both exterior building components and interior design components that aim to enhance the cruise passenger experience. Exterior building components contrast with the adjacent cruise terminal architecture and create their own presence: metal wall cladding, a continuous and undulating metallic roof profile visible from the ship, light and airy entrance and bus canopies, and a tropical landscape.

The signature tensile fabric canopies commonly associated with PortMiami are part of the overall cruise terminal complex and composition; these vertical elements are contrasted with the new undulating horizontal rolling wave roof profile. The interior design components provide a clear passenger circulation sequence for both embark and disembark operations. This is achieved through calming white interiors contrasted by colorful nautical-inspired finishes and audiovisual and media interventions.

Cruise Terminal F Expansion’s design strategy creates an upgraded terminal that is comparable to the new terminals currently being built on the Port in operational clarity and aesthetic appeal while beating the new terminals in budget.
